When near, I feel the passion rising,
When ‘moves away, my heart burns,
Out of what fire, Lord has made you, Lord has made you~
इन्ना सोणा क्युं रब्ब ने बनाया (*2)
आवां जावां ते मैं यारा नु मनावां (*2)
इन्ना सोणा (*3)
Enna Sona kyu Rab ne bnaya (*2)
Aanwa Jaawan te mai yaara nu manawaa (*2)
Inna Sona (*3)

Not even the heat of moon touch you,
So I’ll sprinkle the dews whole night,
With such pains, God has made you, God has made you~

Enna Sona is a song written by Sampooran Singh Kalra aka Gulzar and sung by Arjit Singh, for the movie Ok Jaanu (Ok Dear).

Trivia

This song was first sung by Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan for the album, Magic Touch, in 1991, created by Bally Sagoo. The original song lengths around eight minutes. The song was recorded in London, England.

Nadeem Shravan was the first one to sample it for the song Kitna Pyara Tujhe, for the movie, Raja Hindustani, starring Aamir Khan and Karishma Kapoor.

The original song starts with the words, “Uno, Dos, Tres, Cuatro”, that is, “one, two, three, four” in Spanish.

The song has many versions, recent being, Kinna Sona in the movie Marjaavaan, starring Riteish Deshmukh, Sidharth Malhotra, and Tara Sutaria, released in 2019. This one was sung by Dhvani Bhanushali and Jubin Nautiyal, written by Kumaar, and was given music by Meet Bros.

Why I translated it?

Ok Jaanu“, wasn’t able to hit the box-office, but this particular song began to be played in the loop by many. Back in college, as soon as I used to enter the class, I would hear girls singing it together, listening to it, or humming it on their own.

I decided to translate it, as I found no good translation of it anywhere on the internet. The translations, I believe, shouldn’t be only literal, but meaningful. poetic, and most importantly, they must not lose the true aesthetic undertones of such songs as these.

It took time for me to first listen and start feeling this song; the beauty of it. It has sexual undertones, the reason why I’m not really a fan of it, but I love the way it is weaved, sung, and the music, given by Meet Bros, is soothing as well.

I hope, I have done an okay job, even if the song was in Punjabi. What do you think? Should I change anything?
